Profile: Prof. Dr. Martina Kessel

Martina Kessel

Martina Kessel studied History, Political Science and American Studies in Cologne, Munich and Maryland (USA). After receiving her Ph.D. in Modern History from the University of Munich, she worked as a fellow at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton. She completed her post-doctoral habilitation in 1998, and became a full professor of Modern History and Gender History at Bielefeld University in the same year. In 2005-06, Martina Kessel taught as a Visiting Professor of Modern German and European History at the University of Toronto. She is among other things a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the German Historical Institute in Paris and of the directory board of the Bielefeld Graduate School in History and Sociology. As of 2011, Martina Kessel is vice-rector for international affairs and communication.
