Prof. Dr. Johannes Hellermann (born in 1957) obtained his doctorate in law from the University of Freiburg in 1992 and completed his habilitation (qualification to teach as a university lecturer) at Bielefeld University in 1998. From January 2000 through September 2002 Johannes Hellermann was Professor for Public Law at the University of Münster. He accepted a guest professership at the University of Virginia School of Law, Charlottesville, USA in 2002. In October 2002 he was appointed as Professor for Public Law, Finance and Tax Law at the Bielefeld University.
His main areas of research are constitutional law, economic administrative law and European economic law, municipal law and public financial law.
Johannes Hellermann was vice-rector for academic studies and teaching from November 2007 to December 2009. Since December 2009 he has been vice-rector for quality development at Bielefeld University.
As vice-rector for quality development he is also chair of the commission of organisational development.
