Interdisciplinary Forum on the Nazca-Culture in Peru

Date: June 21 - 23, 2006
Organizers: Christoph Rust (Hannover), Bernd Teichert (Dresden)

About 40 giant earth drawings - so-called geoglyphs - depicting animals, plants and geometric figures can be found in the Nazca area in Peru. Even though specialists agree on the time this system was built, the question why it was built is still unsolved. No systematic material exists that could help to answer this question in a scientifically satisfying way, which is why numerous hypotheses continue to circulate.
At the workshop, the 'Nazca-Secret' will be discussed from the perspectives of astronomy, archeology, geology, anthropolgy, art and iconography in an effort to decode the secrets a little further.
The workshop will be accompanied by an exhibition with works from Christoph Rust and exhibits of the Nazca-Project in Dresden.
