ZiF Public Lecture

Freedom of Religion in Conflict

Date: January 10, 19 h

Location: ZiF Plenarsaal

Heiner Bielefeldt (Erlangen), UN-Sonderberichterstatter über Religions- und Weltanschauungsfreiheit

Caricatures, burning books, anti-blasphemy laws: freedom of religion is a human right, although there is no other human right that has - with increasing frequency - raised controversial questions at international level in the past few years. How to deal appropriately with public provocations? How is freedom of religion to be seen compared to other human rights such as gender equality or the right to physical integrity? How can religious hatred be overcome? The UN Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Religion, Heiner Bielefeldt, gives a public lecture on the highly explosive issue of religious freedom on January 10, 2013 at 7 pm at the Center for Interdisciplinary Research of Bielefeld University.

Heiner Bielefeldt, Professor of human rights and human rights policy at the Universität Erlangen, has been the UN Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Religion or Belief since 2010.

Admission is free. Registration is not required

Broadcast on 31 July at Deutschlandradio Wissen: Hörsaal
