Research Interests

 

Validation of the NemaSPEAR[%]-Index based on microcosm studies and acute sensitivity experiments

Sediments are regarded as hotspots for chemical contamination in freshwater ecosystems. Due to their dual function as sink and source of contaminants, sediments are an important part of running waters and in the focus of ecotoxicological and limnological research. Meiobenthic organisms are the most abundant and diverse taxa in sediments and highly associated with the contamination in their environment. Eco(toxico)logical risk assessment of chemicals for aquatic ecosystems needs to take the effects on meiobenthic fauna into account. Therefore the NemaSPEAR[%]-Index, which is based on the community analysis of the diverse and abundant nematodes, was developed. This Index should be validated by microcosm studies and acute sensitivity experiments with in situ-nematodes.
The major aim is the establishment of the developed NemaSPEAR[%]-Index and its implementation in the assessment procedure of sediments.
