Research Interests

All kinds of submerged hard substrates at the shore line of lakes are covered with periphyton which consists not only of algae, but also of bacteria, fungi and other organic and inorganic components. The periphyton serves as habitat for all kinds of meiofauna organisms such as nematodes, rotifers and microcrustaceans which are very important for lake food webs. This extreme habitat makes high demands on the meiofauna community because biotic and abiotic factors are permanently changing. But how do biotic and abiotic factors affect the composition of periphitic meiofauna?

Here is a short overview of my ongoing projects:

  • Temporal variation of periphytic meiofauna.
  • Effect of selected herbivores on periphytic meiofauna.
  • Feeding behaviour of free-living nematodes.
  • Effects of biocides on periphytic communities.
