The students of the University of Bielefeld are organised in student bodies (so-called Fachschaft). Every faculty possesses one. The work of these bodies mainly consists of representing the students' interests. They also offer counselling for students, of which students can and should take advantage. At the beginning of each semester there are also introductory meetings which it is useful to attend. These meetings facilitate the start of the studies: students can obtain all the necessary information on the organisation and structure of the particular course of studies and make important contacts with their fellow-students.
