A grant is financial aid paid to students and pupils by various institutions. It is usually tied to a number of requirements and is awarded according to special need or special academic achievements.
As a matter of principle, the University of Bielefeld cannot give any grants for financing studies. Neither does the University undertake any responsibility for students whose source of income has run out for any reason at all. However, there is limited scope for assisting certain groups of people over a limited period.
Supervision grants can be given to students studying in Bielefeld on the basis of an exchange agreement with a partner university.
The recipient of a supervision grant is required to spend 2-4 hours weekly on supervision or similar tasks which are useful to international exchange (e.g. social and academic supervision, language tandems, work on cultural programmes, excursions, events concerning cultural background, supervision activities).
Students cannot apply personally but must be proposed by the partnership co-ordinator in Bielefeld.

Contact grants are given on the basis of an active partnership with the home university of the applicant, and on the understanding that the partner university offers appropriate support reciprocally. The grant is paid for a maximum of ten months.
Students cannot apply directly but must be proposed by their home university or the partnership co-ordinator from the Bielefeld University. The grant can be confirmed only when both sides have consented.
