The University library is one of the most modern in Germany and is very user-friendly. All the departmental libraries are connected with one another and freely accessible. The stock of books amounts to about 1.8 million titles; besides this about 7,575 national and international periodicals and newspapers are on standing order. By means of a special computer system it can quickly and easily be found out which books are in stock; apart from that the distance borrowing system makes it possible to borrow books which are not available here from the libraries of other universities and institutions in Germany.
The library is situated on the first floor of almost all wings. The reference books can be consulted here and most of the books can be lent free of charge. Works which are not in stock can be ordered from other libraries at the central lending desk (Zentrale Leihstelle, gallery, wing A, 1st floor). In wing C there is the information centre of the library. Here the daily and weekly press can also be read.
In the university computing centre (Hochschulrechenzentrum-HRZ) terminals with internet access are available to the students. Every semester the HRZ offers introductory and training course. Apart from this, every faculty has its own computers, which are connected with the HRZ.

Films, documentation and newscasts (also foreign ones, if they can be received) are recorded in the audio-visual centre and some are archived. If desired, TV broadcasts can be transferred for scientific reasons. The SCM also possesses a stock of audio-visual devices which can be borrowed for seminars.

Apart from this, the hall contains a number of small shops, a bank terminal, a post office and a restaurant.
Every semester a wide-ranging programme of sports is published.
