Basically, an application for a flat in a student hostel is only possible after matriculation at the University of Bielefeld at the local student union (Studentenwerk) or other administrators of halls of residence. A list of halls of residence can be obtained at the International Office (IO) or at the student union. Due to the high number of first-year students at the start of the summer or winter semester, only few students will have the possibility to move into a hall of residence at the very beginning of their studies. They will thus have to find a flat on the private housing market after their arrival.
