Accomodation in Bielefeld

Finding accomodation in Bielefeld is as difficult as in most German universities. However, in previous years, all ERASMUS students did find a room in a student hostel or were offered private accomodation. When looking for a room the following link is helpful:

Studentenwerk Bielefeld (University accommodation)
Verein zur Förderung internationaler Studierender
(Society for Supporting Foreign Students)

But at first the International Office tries to arrange accommodation for you. Therefore, it should be informed as soon as possible, if you need accommodation. The address is:

Universität Bielefeld
International Office
Universitätsstraße 25
D-33615 Bielefeld
Tel.: +49 (0)521/106-4088/-4087/-2426
E-Mail: wohnen-io@uni-bielefeld.de

Antonia Bartels, a parttime student assistant, takes care of the coordination of accommodation. For consultation times please inquire our Contact Page. The International Office currently offers 50 places in a new student hostel on campus. A room is 232,- Euro per month.

* Mid September - Mid March or
* Mid September - 31st of July or
* Mid March - 31st of July

The IO also tries to provide private accomodation, such as housesharing (Wohngemeinschaften). Private accomodation may be more expensive up to 300 Euro per month.

Recommendation: The sooner you apply for a room in university flats, the better are your chances! If for some reason your intention to study in Bielefeld does not materialise, the IO must be informed immediately. In this case the room already reserved for you can be offered to someone else.
