A new country, a new city, a new university and hardly any familiar faces...
Going abroad can be a little frightening. But don't worry; the staff of the
International Office will do their best to make your start in Bielefeld really
enjoyable and easy.
Before the semester starts officially, the "Orientation Weeks" for international
students will help you settle in more easily and give you many opportunities to
get to know fellow international students.
Students coming to Bielefeld University for the winter semester can choose between a four weeks program (beginning in September) or a one-week program in October (if their knowledge of the German language is already advanced).
Students who come to Bielefeld University for the summer semester can attend the three weeks program which starts in March.
It is possible to receive 3 - 5 credit points for the intensive language courses, if students take part regularly and sit the final exam. Dates for the Welcome Weeks programs and more information can be found on the Infosheet.
Please note:
It is very much recommended that you take part in
Orientation Weeks program as it is the best start for your study period in Bielefeld
and it offers ample opportunities to get to know fellow students. It also
guarantees an early and speedy issuing of your student card (including the
combined access to the internet and electronic information system of Bielefeld
University) and of the Semester-Ticket for free public transport in Bielefeld
and the surroundings.
