Two years ago, Bielefeld University recognized the need not only to gather the facts on how many businesses are started up at the University but also to document the interest in starting up businesses, the potentials, and what sort of advice academics expect on this. Therefore, it launched a study focusing on an intensive analysis of the various aspects of the topic of self-employment and entrepreneurship.

The mission of the PROVendis GmbH is to exploit the market potential of the inventions made at NRW's higher education institutions. At present, German higher education institutions register only four per cent of all patents per year. To some extent, this is due to the complexity and expense of patent registration procedures. This is where PROVendis steps in with practical counselling and support.
