Profile: Prof. Dr. Reinhold Decker

Prorektor Prof. Dr. DeckerReinhold Decker, born 1960, holds a master’s degree (diploma in German) in business engineering. In 1993, he received his Ph.D. in economics from the University of Karlsruhe (KIT) and in 1997 he completed his postdoctoral habilitation, focusing on business data analysis in both cases.

Since 1997, he has been Professor of Business Administration at Bielefeld University with a focus on marketing and market research. Main areas of his current research are the development and empirical validation of methods for collecting and analyzing consumer data, particularly customer opinions, as well as data-driven new product development and brand image analysis. As a visiting scholar or guest lecturer, he worked, among others, at the Moscow Academy of National Economy, the University of Paris III – Sorbonne Nouvelle, the University of Maryland and the University of Vienna.

He is a member of editorial boards (e.g. Review of Managerial Science), vice-president of the German Classification Society and scientific director of Bielefeld2000plus. Since 1997, Reinhold Decker has been active in different fields of academic self-administration.

From October 2012 to September 2015, Reinhold Decker was vice-rector for finance and resources. Since October 2015, he has been vice-rector for information management.
