Hans-Jürgen Simm (born 1947 in Bielefeld) studied Law in Bielefeld and Münster. In May 1977 he joined Bielefeld University as a legal adviser. After being responsible for the University's finances as departmental head for four years, he later worked as permanent deputy of the University chancellor and head of the personnel department for ten years. Since August 2001 Hans-Jürgen Simm has been Chancellor of Bielefeld University.
