In Search of the Global Labour Market - Market Makers, Mobility Regimes, and Regulations

Date: 5 - 7 February 2015

Convenors: Ursula Mense-Petermann (Bielefeld, GER) and Thomas Welskopp (Bielefeld, GER)

'Global labour markets' have not figured under the much debated topics in globalization research and have rarely been systematically investigated in the social sciences. The workshop 'In Search of the Global Labour Market', therefore, aimed at conceptualizing global labour markets in a way that makes it possible to grasp the divers processes of transnationalization of labour markets by drawing on contributions from different disciplines. Participants discussed if there was such a thing as a global labour market at all, what would count as global labour market and with what categories it could best be analyzed, and if - in a historical perspective - there were new developments with regard to a globalization of labour markets.
