The group will pursue two formats of events, international workshops that last a couple of days and mini-seminars of one or a few days.
The first workshop was held on Historical Perspectives on Mathematics As a Tool. It took place 13-15 Nov, 2013, and involved international scholars working on the history of mathematics and its uses, featuring the partnership of Bielefeld and Paris VII (programme).
The second workshop of the group will be on Philosophical Perspectives on Mathematics As a Tool. It will take place 14-15 July, 2014, and will involve international scholars working on the philosophical perspectives of mathematics as a tool. The programme is available for download.
The third workshop of the group will be on Assessing the Climate via Models - Prediction, Understanding, and Computer Simulation. It will take place 8 - 9 June, 2015, and will involve international scholars working on the philosophical perspectives of mathematics as a tool. The programme is available for download.
A series of mini-seminars started in March 2013. Each one was centered around one or a few scientists that develop and use mathematics as a tool. Topics included high energy physics, climate science, financial economics, visualization in medicine, and engineering design.
