Behavioural Ecology

Peter Korsten

I am a behavioural ecologist with a particular interest in quantitative and molecular genetics, mainly using wild bird populations as model systems. My research focuses on the ecology and evolution of mate choice and family life. In my research, I combine diverse methods, ranging from behavioural observation to using individual-based long-term population and pedigree data for quantitative genetic analyses. Ultimately, my research aims at understanding the causes for individual variation in behaviour and fitness.

Research interests

Sexual selection, sex allocation and sexual conflict
Cooperation and conflict in parental care
The genetics of ‘animal personality’
