Studying at the Faculty

The faculty of biology and Bielefeld University offer an optimal environment for your studies.

The curriculum introduces you to the basics of modern biology, but early on you will also get into contact with current research questions and methods. Besides well-founded biology competence you will also learn key competences like self-guided learning and experimenting. In well equipped rooms and labs you can work with state-of-the-art research equipment.

The University is a campus of short distances. This eases the contact with other students and enables quick changes between courses. The library counts among the best equipped in Germany.

Specific offers for beginning students:

  • Introductory Week: An introductory week organized by members of the faculty introduces you to the facilities of your university, to the teachers of the different disciplines within biology and brings you into contact with more experienced biology students.

  • Key Competencies: To help you during the first semesters on campus, Faculty scientists offer accompanying courses for gaining some essential skills like scientific writing and mathematics in addition to the biology courses. They can help you with your questions regarding writing assignments, analyses and experimentation, and try to make the transition from school to university a little easier.
