On the following pages, you will find all information about the Summerschool 2012 "Mobilizing Ethnicity - Competing Identity Politics in the Americas: Past and Present" in Bielefeld.

Thematic Focus and Objectives:

Within the context of the Quincentenary of the European expansion to the Americas in 1992, indigenous groups throughout the continent mobilized to denounce the colonial legacy of present societies and to express their political, economic and cultural needs. This can be related to a profound transition in identity politics.The Summer School offers the possibility to discuss the role of ethnic identity politics in the ongoing struggle for defining the principles and boundaries of social inclusion and political participation with some of the leading activists and academic scholars in the field. The students also acquire key qualifications in media practice.

Target Group:

Postgraduate students from Master or PhD Programs in Humanities and Social Sciences.
