With the "Time for Teaching" award programme, Bielefeld University is creating incentives and framing conditions for a student-centred reform of courses and syllabi as well as a meaningful coordination of curricula.
Time for Teaching gives awards to creative projects that aim to renew and intellectually revitalize disciplinary course concepts at Bielefeld University. Our goal is to encourage faculty to design courses that give students more time and opportunity to engage in autonomous learning activities such as performing literature searches, reading, reflection, writing, and critical thinking. If teaching staff are to meet this goal, they also need time for planning: for discussing and consulting with each other and for developing new courses and syllabi. The Time for Teaching awards are meant to provide faculty with the necessary resources and time to engage in course design.
