User-orientated care: Promotion of health in the context of chronic diseases and care dependency (research network FörGes)
Two major objectives are in the focus of this research network
- Enabling user-orientated care, i.e. a needs-based care that allows maximum quality of life.
- Maintaining autonomy despite chronic conditions by strengthening health literacy, self-management, and user participation – here regarded as nursing task.
In five projects scientific based strategies for the promotion of health and self-management support are developed, pilot tested and validated (FörGes 1-5). They are framed by cross-sectional analyses (FörGes Q).
The research network is based on the collaboration of five non-profit welfare organizations in NRW, the School of Public Health, Bielefeld University, and the Faculty of Business and Health, University of Applied Sciences Bielefeld (FH Bielefeld).

Transition consultation hours

The aim is to pursue the question of how transition consultation hours for older adolescent ADHD patients should be structured in order to better match the transition from paediatric to adult care to the needs of the target group (user orientation). On the basis of information obtained an intervention will be developed and tested which contributes to the improvement of autonomy and participation of ADHD patients by providing information and imparting knowledge regarding the course of the disease and care processes.

Supporting self-management of caring children using the example of families with addictions

Children and adolescents whose parents are suffering from mental illnesses have to face numerous challenges. The aim is to develop a preventive care intervention, which by taking over care tasks offer relief for children in the family context or provide information regarding possibilities of relief and also explains the course of the parents’ disease. Focus of the intervention is put on the strengthening of the child’s resources and a sustainable health promotion as well as on the stabilization of family life.

Promotion of mobility and physical activities of people with mental disabilities

The aim is to develop and test an intervention concept, which promotes a physically active lifestyle of individuals with intellectual disabilities. A crucial element of the project is that it integrates the perspective of the individuals concerned. The project’s aim is to contribute to strengthening health literacy, health-related quality of life and self-management in order to maintain autonomy, self-determination and participation of the affected people.

Strengthening e-health literacy among older people

The aim is to develop interventions to strengthening e-health literacy of older people with health impairments. For this purpose a) a polynomial survey is conducted, on the basis of which b) interventions for promoting digital health literacy and maintaining social participation of older people being at risk of suffering from chronic diseases and care dependency is developed and tested.

Self-management of Turkish migrants caring for relatives

Aim of the project is to develop and validate a care intervention for the promotion of self-management of people of Turkish origin caring for relatives suffering from dementia. The intervention is designed as a visiting, user-orientated and low-threshold intervention. It particularly relies on native-language information to promote health literacy, to increase empowerment and to promote self-management competencies. The intervention aims at physically and mentally relieving caring relatives and to support them in their roles, their capacities to act and their resources.

Promotion of health through the life-course – meanings in the context of user-orientated care models (cross-sectional analyses and scientific coordination)

The aim of the cross-sectional analyses is to develop a conceptual framework for the promotion of health and participation of people with chronic diseases and care dependency in the course of life – regarded as a responsibility of nurses. For this purpose options and conditions of implementation of user-orientated care models are analysed.
FörGes Q also promotes and monitors the scientific exchange and joint presentations of the research network.
