The project deals with the concept of memory culture in Germany on various levels (e.g., content, emotions, practices and traditions). We are particularly interested in the question of if and how memory culture currently changes in our society. First, direct reference to the events being remembered ceases with the death of the last historical witnesses. Second, memory culture in a more and more heterogeneous society is still conceptualised mostly from the majority?s perspective. These and other issues will not only be discussed theoretically but also tested empirically in a representative survey.
