As the Institute of Advanced Study at Bielefeld University, the ZiF fosters outstanding and innovative interdisciplinary research projects. The ZiF is an independent thematically open research institution and is open to scholars from all disciplines and countries.
The contribution of young researchers and their ideas are especially welcome at the ZiF:
- After enrolling at the ZiF, students can attend any event held at the ZiF. You can subscribe here to a newsletter that keeps you informed of upcoming events.
- Graduates and doctoral candidates can participate in Research and Cooperation groups at the ZiF as fellows. Please address a corresponding letter of application to the head of the particular research project.
- Scholarship holders from the "Begabtenförderwerke" (organisations in Germany for the promotion of young talents) can organise workshops whilst still engaged in their studies or doctoral degrees.
The Universitätsgesellschaft Bielefeld (University Society) - Verein der Freund und Förderer der Universität Bielefeld e.V. (Bielefeld University Friends Association) ? focuses on the dialogue between the University and regional, societal and business actors.
It promotes teaching and research, dialogue events, cultural opportunities, internationalisation and also organises competitions for excellence in teaching (Karl Peter Grotemeyer Prize) and research (Dissertation prizes).
Over 600 key figures from science and industry, politics and management are members of the University Society. Membership is open to everyone and is priced at 30 Euro upwards for individuals. Members can meet socially at the annual members meeting, prize giving ceremonies and at the Rektor's reception.
