Welcome

The Research Unit on Transnationalization, Development and Migration deals with the transnational social question, that is, theories, concepts, empirical research and policies dealing with the stark inequalities across borders. The Center's activities focus on cross-border transactions regarding transnational mobility, political membership and development.

Since the end of the East-West conflict and thus the "End of the Third World", development issues have to be placed within a transforming set of political, economic and cultural coordinates. In this setting, global social inequality and growing cultural diversity play key roles. Both are reflected in new patterns of international migration, multiple and overlapping memberships in national states and changing paradigms of development.

Current projects at the Research Unit on Transnationalization, Development and Migration deal with Environmental Change and Forced Migration (EACH-FOR, EU 6th Framework Programme), Transnationalisation, Migration and Transformation (TRANS-NET, EU 7th Framework Programme), and migration in and from Africa (MISA).

We are looking forward to engage in a conversation on our research topics.
