The project is funded by the European Union's 7th Framework Program and will be conducted from March 2008 till February 2011.
The objective of this project is to clarify and compare the multi-level processes of transnationalism. The main research question is, how migrants' activities across national borders emerge, function, and change, and how they are related to the processes of governance in increasingly complex and interconnected world. The research will be conducted in the four transnational social spaces Estonia/Finland, India/U.K., Morocco/France and Turkey/Germany. Processes of transnationalism in these four spaces will be analysed in the political, economic, socio-cultural and educational domain and with respect to the macro, meso and micro level.
The project is divided into three phases, the first being the development of a common theoretical-conceptual approach. The second phase involves a comparative analysis of the phenomena surrounding transnationalism in the four transnational social spaces, and the third phase of the project will be the dissemination of the research results.
