Faculty of Technology has an open position for a
Professorship (W2 or W3) for Cognitive Robotics, with a Focus on Vision
We are looking for a personality with strong track record in
fundamental and applied research on vision for robotics, in particular
in developing cognitive vision approaches for interaction in complex
dynamic real-world scenes, in support of autonomous behaviour such as
grasping, manipulation, navigation and/or human-machine interaction.
Cognitive vision approaches should ideally cover both, low and high levels of interaction. Low level approaches include multimodal sensory integration and internal sensory motor models of the physical interaction to support vision-based control. High level approaches should enable robots to develop internal representations of complex and dynamic scenes including human participants as a basis to support action understanding and planning as well as social situation modeling. A focus on knowledge-based and semantic-based approaches to machine vision is particularly welcome.
The candidate is expected to integrate actively into the interdisciplinary Cluster of Excellence 'Cognitive lnteraction Technology' (CITEC) that overlaps several faculties (Computer Science, Psychology, Sports, Biology, Linguistics). Contributions to the other areas within the department are also expected.
We also seek to strengthen our cooperation with industry via the Research Institute on Cognition and Robotics (CoR-Lab). Candidates are expected to have experience in the management of collaborative projects and in the acquisition of 3rd party funding.
Candidates should further have a strong teaching record at the undergraduate and graduate levels; they are expected to contribute to the teaching in basic computer science as well as in robotics and related subjects. They are expected to contribute to the development of our bachelor, master and PhD programs. ·
Appointment requires a university degree and a qualified PhD in a relevant subject (preferably computer science) as well as pedagogical aptitude.
Applications from suitably qualified handicapped and severely handicapped persons are explicitly encouraged.
Bielefeld University has received a number of awards for its achievements in the provision of equal opportunity and has been recognized as a family friendly University. The University welcomes applications from women. This is particularly true with regard both to academic and technical posts as well as positions in information technology and trades and crafts. Applications are handled according to the provisions of the state equal opportunity Statutes.
Applications with the usual documents (curriculum vitae, complete publication list, indication of the 10 most important publications in the last 10 years, 2-page research and teaching concept, overview of teaching experience with current evaluations, overview of research experience and successes, overview of acquired third-party funding in the past 5 years, copies of academic certificates) will be requested as a PDF document (summarized in one file) by June 15, 2017 to:
