Faculty of Technology at Bielefeld University invites applications for a
to be filled as soon as possible.
Bielefeld University is currently establishing an interdepartmental research and education center "Data Science". In this context, existing centers of competence (here bioinformatics) will be enhanced and interconnected by additional professorships. The opening announced here is one of these positions.
The successful candidate will perform research and education in the area of Computational Data Science. She or he will cooperate with the bioinformatics research groups at the Faculty of Technology and will participate in the DFG Research Training Group "Computational Methods for the Analysis of the Diversity and Dynamics of Genomes". Connections to other research groups of the Faculty of Technology and the research center "Data Science" are welcome.
Candidates should have a research and education record at the intersection of computational statistics, algorithmics, and data analysis in molecular biology and biomedicine. They should be internationally recognized in at least one current specialty of computational data science, such as information theory, statistical learning, handling of large data sets (big data), analysis of uncertain data, or data mining. Moreover, experience in statistical modeling and algorithmic analysis of large data sets in a wider context, not limited to bioinformatics, will be appreciated.
The successful candidate is expected to get actively involved with the multiple opportunities for interdisciplinary research cooperation at Bielefeld University. Among others, the Center for Biotechnology (CeBiTec) and the Research Centre for Mathematical Modelling (RCM2) offer an attractive interdisciplinary research environment. The professor will teach in the relevant bachelor and master programs of the Faculty of Technology. In addition, we expect that the new faculty member will actively participate in the master programs Data Science and lnterdisciplinary Biomedicine that are currently being established.
Applications from suitably qualified handicapped and severely handicapped persons are explicitly encouraged.
Bielefeld University has received a number of awards for its achievements in the provision of equal opportunity and has been recognized as a family friendly University. The University welcomes applications from women. This is particularly true with regard both to academic and technical posts as well as positions in information technology and trades and crafts. Applications are handled according to the provisions of the state equal opportunity Statutes.
Applications with the usual documents (curriculum vitae, complete publication list, indication of the 10 most important publications in the last 10 years, 2-page research and teaching concept, overview of teaching experience with current evaluations, overview of research experience and successes, overview of acquired third-party funding in the past 5 years, copies of academic certificates) will be requested as a PDF document (summarized in one file) by June 15, 2017 to:
