The Bielefeld Graduate School in History and Sociology (BGHS) is
looking to recruit a new Executive Manager (full-time, appointment is
slated to end 31 October 2017). The working hours and pay scale for
civil servants of the German Länder applies (up to E14 TV-L).
The BGHS is a joint institution of the Faculty of Sociology and the
History Department of the Faculty of History, Philosophy and Theology
at Bielefeld University. The Graduate School, supported within the
framework of the Excellence Initiative, focuses on the theoretical and
methodological training of its almost 200 members and brings
thematically diverse research projects under one roof.
The Executive Manager tasks include:
• Management of the main office and oversight of
day-to-day administration;
• Financial planning for an annual budget of over 1
million euros, including the development and implementation of
processes for the allocation of funds;
• Development and implementation of quality control
and evaluation procedures and tools;
• Provision of strategic direction for the BGHS
(supervisory relationships, academic curriculum, qualification
programmes within the doctoral training programme);
• Preparation and implementation of BGHS Executive
Board decisions;
• Cooperation with other bodies both within and
outside of Bielefeld University, in particular from the participating
faculties;
• Expanding and maintaining the Graduate School’s
networks;
• Raising external funds.
Requirements:
• A completed degree from a university or an
accredited university of applied sciences;Doctoral degree in the
humanities or social sciences;
• Several years of experience in academic
administration;
• Excellent verbal skills in both German and English;
• Knowledge of/experience with promoting young
professionals as well as the promotion of research and higher education
policy in Germany and abroad;
• Excellent analytical and conceptual skills.
We are looking for a good organiser who can take personal initiative
and has an avid interest in working together in an interdisciplinary
team. The ideal candidate also has experience in gender and diversity
management.
