The Shine of Gold - Where is the Sensual in Plastic Money?
Colloquium on the Philosophy of Money
One hundred Years ago, in December 1900, Georg Simmel published his
"Philosophy of Money" which became one of the classic works on Cultural
Philosophy and has become even more significant in recent years. On the
occasion of this centenary, Professor Dr. Otthein Rammstedt of the Faculty
for Sociology at Bielefeld University will organize a colloqium on the
"Philosophie des Geldes" focussing on this work's topicality at the Bielefeld
Zentrum für interdisziplinäre Forschung (ZiF) from November 2nd
to 3rd, 2000.
The event will center on answers to recent questions of economy, sociology,
cultural science, and aesthetics which recur to Simmel's Philosophy of
Money.
In connection with the colloquium which will be inaugurated by Professor
Dr. Gertrud Lübbe-Wolf (ZiF) Professor Helmut Steiner (Universitätsgesellschaft)
and Professor Dr. Otthein Rammstedt on Thursday, the 2nd November, the
ZiF also invites to a public contribution to be given by Professor Dr.
Wilhelm Hankel, Francfort, on "‘The Philosophy of Money' and Modern Conscience"
on the same day at 19.30 hours.
