The contributions to the conference dealt with several of Cicero's works and interpreted him in the light of contemporary political problems. The significance of his model of the head of state, his understanding of citizenship, his conception of the "just war", of deliberation, of truth and of reason, and his reception in the history of political ideas were some of the topics which were intensively discussed. The conference represented a very productive dialogue among several disciplines (ancient history, linguistics, political science, philosophy) and recapitulated Cicero's contemporary significance as a "critical skeptic" who teaches us a reasonable sensitivity for all kinds of political problems.
