In this workshop with Hartmut Lehmann his concept of secularization was discussed and examined with regard to learning and education in early modern times. The productivity of this concept became apparent in respect of the French classical secondary school of Annecy in the 16th century, and Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel's and Westphalian secondary schools and rural elementary schools in the duchy of Berg in the second half of the 17th century. Opposite judgements were proposed in view of Augsburg's orphanages in the 17th century in particular and girl's education of catholic nuns in the 17th century in general.
