The conference addressed continuities and changes in the political culture of the Andean region (focussing on Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru und Bolivia) provoked by two recent trends: the rise of indigenous activism and the spread of the so-called New Left since the last decade of the twentieth century. Papers and discussions concentrated on the different actors, discourses and institutions involved in political communication and interaction in the Andean region.
The conference was financially supported by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft and the SFB 584 (sub-project 'Ethnization and De- Ethnization of the political') under the direction of Joanna Pfaff-Czarnecka and Christian Büschges.
