The starting-point of this conference is the current debate about the nature and role of concepts in philosophy and certain special disciplines (psychology, ethology, history of ideas). The aim is to formulate and contrast different conceptions of concepts in a way which is as precise and fruitful as possible. We also hope to shed light on the question of what concepts are by scrutinizing the role and importance of concepts in various subjects, research programmes and theories.
