ZiF-Research Group "Communicating Disaster"

Closing Conference

Dealing with the Disasters of Others

26-28 January 2012

Text?

Looking backward, thinking forward: Within the context of the closing conference, the fellows of the ZiF-Research Group Communicating Disaster will present first research outcomes of the multiple activities, events, regular working meetings and cooperations of the past research year as well as arisen open questions stimulating further research.

In addition, we are honoured to include presentations by representatives from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), the Federal Office of Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (BBK), from practical fields of disaster management and the industry (medical and safety technology).

The four sessions of the conference are identically equal to the four topics covering the major fields of research and discussions within the research year:

Keynotes will be given by Valerie November (Lausanne) and Nalaka Gunawardene (Sri Lanka).

The associated group Xperiment! (Michael Guggenheim et al., Vienna/London) will also present some results of their art project about performative disaster scenarios and coping rituals at the first evening of the conference.

The conference language will be English.
