Return or Remain: Migration Intentions among Chinese Students in Germany

International student mobility has become an important subject in the global competition for talent. The literature on 'brain drain' and 'brain gain' always focus primarily upon the consequences of international talent mobility rather than investigating its causes (Miyagiwa, 1991). Based on De Jong's(2000) value-expectancy based model that emphasizes the processes through which how macro-level structures and its consequences convert into individual decision making processes (Boyd,1989), this research aims to investigate Chinese students' migration intentions and the contributions of a range demographic and socio-economic factors to migration intentions among Chinese students in Germany, in order to show how motivation and non-motivation factors shape their intentions of remaining in the host country or returning to the home country.
