Admission to the BGHS degree programme

It is possible to seek admission to the doctoral programme of the BGHS. The application deadline for admissions to our degree programme is 15 January and 15 June; the semester begins on 01 April and on 01 October. You will find more information under degree programme at the menu bar on the left.

Visiting fellowships

Each semester, the BGHS invites two international doctoral researchers from a foreign university to join our community in Bielefeld for a research stay of up to four months. The deadline for applications are 15 January for Summer Term (1 April to 30 September) and 15 June for Winter Term (1 October to 31 March). Currently, there are no Visiting Fellowships announced. The next application deadline will be 15 January 2015. You will find more information under visiting fellowships at the menu bar on the left.

Start-up scholarships for international doctoral proposals

The BGHS will award four six month start-up scholarships for Summer Term to international MA graduates looking to pursue a doctoral degree. The scholarships support the preparation of a research project and the completion of a project description for applications for admissions, fellowships, or doctoral positions. The next deadline for applications will be 15 January 2015.

Shortcuts scholarships for the promotion of young women researchers

The BGHS offers a series of workshops on preparing doctoral proposals and shall award Shortcuts scholarships to young women researchers wishing to attend these workshops. More information on the programme and the application procedure will be available in Summer Term.

Grants for members of the BGHS community

The BGHS supports the international mobility of its members with mobility grants for three to six-month stays abroad at universities or research facilities. We also offer a nine-month grant for participation in the BGHS exchange programme with John Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland (USA).
