Admission
To join the Graduate School in History and Sociology, you must be accepted to the doctoral programme in history or to the doctoral programme in sociology. Decisions on admission are made in the doctoral degree committees of the respective faculties, applications are to be made online through the BGHS website.
Students who wish to be admitted to one of the doctoral programmes must apply either for admission or for a scholarship. Applications are accepted online only through this site.
Applications for admission
Applications for admission are accepted twice annually. The deadline for the Winter Term is June 15 and January 15 for the Summer Term. There is no funding connected with acceptance of an application to the Graduate School. However the BGHS does support its members' research projects in many ways. You can find detailed information on opportunities for financial assistance here.
Applications for scholarships
Another path to admission to the Graduate School is to apply for a scholarship. Scholarships are awarded for the Research Training Groups as well as for the BGHS. The application and selection procedure for Research Training Group fellowships is not run by the BGHS, but by the respective training groups.
