Qualifying Scholarships

The BGHS offers qualifying scholarships for national and international Master students who want to study for a doctorate in history or sociology.

Requirements

MA students with outstanding degrees in history or sociology are invited to apply for a qualifying scholarship. It is planned to give scholarship holders the opportunity to work on a thesis proposal with which they can apply for a place on the BGHS doctoral programme and/or a doctoral scholarship at the BGHS.

Programme

The BGHS welcomes the attendance of MA graduates at the Graduate School's study programme during the period of the qualifying scholarship. The candidates' study programme should be designed together with the professor who proposes the candidate.

Application documents

There are no application deadlines. Applicants are asked to submit the following documents:

• Statement of motivation (one page)
• Overview of candidates' course of studies/transcript
• Copies of BA- and, where applicable, MA-degree
• Resumé/Curriculum vitae (in tabular form)
• Two references from professors (one from Bielefeld University)
• Proposal of the prospective thesis (400 to 800 words)
