During the first session of the meeting (Thursday, 12th of September) the general biology and conservation of the moorfrog (Rana arvalis) across its entire distribution area will be reflected by representative presentations of national experts. In a second session (Friday morning, 13th of September) selected presentations will report on the current situation of the moorfrog in Germany and will show/discuss effective conservation measures for this threatened species in the light of the FFH-guideline. Finally, in a third session (Friday afternoon, 13th of September) we would like to go beyond the system of the moorfrog and discuss intention, reality and future perspectives of the FFH-guideline for amphibians in general. Asking the question Research meets practice: how and why can genetic concepts and markers help to fulfil the FFH-guideline? leading national amphibian experts will demonstrate the potential of genetic concepts and markers for conservation in general and how these could be implemented in the fulfilment of the FFH-guideline for German amphibian species. We expect a fruitful discussion between researchers and persons that are the primary actors in conservation and FFH-fulfilment that will help to point out effective future directions in FFH-related research and measures.
A high-quality volume of the meeting containing most of the meeting’s contributions will be published as supplement of the Journal of field herpetology. The printed volume will be on hand at the meeting for the amount of 49,- €. The meeting volume as well as catering during coffee breaks and a conference dinner will be included in the registration fee.
