Supramolecular (Photoswitchable) Capsules
Two resorcin[4]arene host systems were combined with two anthracene units to build a photoswitchable molecular capsule. On irradiation at 350 nm the cavity of this capsule is (dramatically) reduced by [4+4] cycloaddition of the anthracene units. So far reopening does not occur under convenient conditions. Investigations in reversibility of the photoreaction and host guest interactions are the focus of our current research.
