Ethnicity, Citizenship and Belonging in Latin America

Place: Interdisciplinary Latin America Center (ILZ) at the Center for Development Research (ZEF) of the University of Bonn
The conference is dedicated to the study of phenomena of inclusion and exclusion in Latin America. In particular it aims at discussing the concepts ethnicity, citizenship and belonging from a trans- and interdisciplinary perspective. Apart from theoretical lectures and debates there shall be a presentation of case studies. In workshops there shall be developed a common understanding and equipment of terms. There will be a focus on the applicability of the concepts in the scientific and political praxis in transregional contexts. The conference is open for historians, social anthropologists, sociologists, scholars of literature and culture and political scientists who investigate the mentioned key terms in but also outside Latin America. It invites established as well as young scholars and especially extends an invitation to Latin-American academics.

Veranstaltungsort: Interdisziplinäres Lateinamerikazentrum (ILZ) im Zentrum für Entwicklungsforschung (ZEF) der Rheinischen Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn
Die Tagung widmet sich der Untersuchung von Inklusions- und Exklusions-Phänomenen in Lateinamerika. Insbesondere setzt sie sich zum Ziel die Konzepte ?Ethnicity?, ?Citizenship? und ?Belonging? aus einer inter- und transdisziplinären Perspektive zu diskutieren. Neben theoretischen Vorträgen und Debatten sollen Fallstudien vorgestellt und in Workshops ein gemeinsames Begriffsinstrumentarium entwickelt werden. Im Fokus steht dabei auch die Anwendbarkeit der Konzepte in der wissenschaftlichen und politischen Praxis in transregionalen Kontexten. Die Tagung richtet sich an Historiker, Ethnologen, Soziologen, Literatur-, Kultur- und Politikwissenschaftler die sich in-, aber auch außerhalb der Region Lateinamerika mit den genannten Schlüsselbegriffen beschäftigen. Sie ist offen sowohl für etablierte als auch für Nachwuchswissenschaftler und lädt insbesondere lateinamerikanische Wissenschaftler zur Teilnahme ein.

El congreso está dedicado a la investigación de fenómenos de inclusión y exclusión en América Latina. Tiene como meta particular la discusión inter- y transdisciplinaria de los conceptos etnicidad, ciudadanía y pertenencia. Aparte de ponencias y debates teóricos está planeado presentar estudios de caso y desarrollar en sesiones de trabajo un instrumental de términos conjunto. También se enfoca la practicabilidad de los conceptos en la práctica científica y política en un contexto transregional. El congreso está abierto para historiadores, antropologos, sociologos, científicos de la literatura y cultura y politologos que investigan los mencionados términos clave dentro pero también fuera de la región América Latina. Invita tanto científicos establecidos como jóvenes y extiende una invitación especial a investigadores de América Latina.

Além de conferências e debates teóricas planeam-se presentações de estudos de caso e desenvolver um instrumental de conceitos conjunto. Também foca-se na aplicabilidade dos conceitos na pesquisa científica e política num contexto transregional. O congresso está aberto a historiadores, antropólogos, sociólogos, pesquisadores literários e de cultura e politólogos que investigam os conceitos chave mencionados dentro mas também fora da região da América Latina. Convida tanto pesquisadores establecidos como jóvens e estende um convite especial a investigadores da América Latina.
