About the Chair
The chair of General and Economic History is responsible for teaching the history of the modern age (14th–19th centuries) and the postmodern era (20th and 21st centuries). Its research focuses primarily on economic developments of the late 19th century and on their consequences for the German and, more broadly, the European economy. Topics include:

Continuing the development of the Bielefeld tradition of historical social sciences, the chair uses an interdisciplinary approach to pursue an analytical orientation to the relationship between business, power and politics, and culture.
