Kirsten Endrikat was born in 1966, and gained a diploma degree in psychology in 1994 in Bielefeld. In 1996 she gained her first academic degree (in Bielefeld, majoring in sport, psychology, and education), with the entitlement to teach in secondary schools. In 2000 she completed her doctoral thesis in Bielefeld on »Jugend, Identität und sportliches Engagement. Eine repräsentative Befragung von Jugendlichen« [Youth, Identity, and Sporting Activity: A Representative Youth Survey].

From 1995-1997 she was a research assistant in the project funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft entitled »Sport und soziale Unterstützung im Jugendalter« [Sport and Social Support in Adolescence] (project managers: Prof. Dr. D. Kurz & Prof. Dr. K.-P. Brinkhoff), run by the Collaborative Research Center 227 (Prevention and Intervention in Childhood and Adolescence) (project manager: Prof. Dr. K. Hurrelmann) at the University of Bielefeld. From 1998-2000 she was research assistant at the Faculty of Psychology and Sports Science in the Department of Physical Education (chair: Prof. Dr. D. Kurz). From 2000-02 she was a non-tenured assistant at the University of Vienna, Austria, in the Department of Sports Psychology (under Prof. Dr. G. Amesberger) where she was involved in an educational research project for school students (intervention study). Since 2002 she has been a research assistant on the project »Group-Focused Enmity (GFE Survey)« with the IKG at the University of Bielefeld (project manager: Prof. Dr. W. Heitmeyer).

Socialization and youth; self-image, gender, school and stress; research into educational, psychological, and sociological aspects of sport; disintegration approach
