The Institute for Interdisciplinary Research on Conflict and Violence (IKG) is a renowned institution researching ethnic and cultural conflict, right-wing extremism, and violence.
A placement at the IKG gives you the opportunity to gain practical insights into empirical conflict and violence research and experience of the everyday life of a university institute. You will be integrated into a diverse range of research activities and communication structures-and we expect our interns to be willing and able to participate actively. We will arrange the individual details of your contribution in consultation with you.
The duration of a placement is normally between a couple of weeks and several months, with working hours corresponding to full-time employment, but the details can be arranged flexibly to accommodate the Institute's capacity requirements, examination schedules, and other considerations. The IKG has no funds for paying interns, so unless specific project-related funds are available we are unable to raise the prospect of remuneration. For insurance reasons it is necessary to conclude a placement agreement with Bielefeld University.
University students are given priority when allocating places. Relevant empirical, theoretical, and methodological knowledge is advantageous for applicants, as is practical experience in disciplines dealing with questions of conflict and violence.
If we are currently offering any placements, you will find these here.
If you are especially interested in particular projects or subjects, please contact the responsible member of staff. For any other questions, Kurt Salentin, our placements officer, is the person to contact.
Due to the structure of our projects and our capacity in terms of personnel and space, the number of available places is limited. Please apply in writing at least six months in advance of the date when you would like your placement to begin.
