+Prof. Bora and Dr. Martina Franzen have been appointed by the Ministry for Innovation, Science and Research of Northrhine-Westfalia as members of the Ethical-Legal-Social Working Group of the Stem Cell Network North Rhine-Westphalia.

+GMO Safety spoke to Prof. Bora about the position of scientific experts in politics and about the role of biosafety research in the public debate.

+At the beginning of 2011 Prof. Weingart has been appointed as chairman of the Commission of the Austrian Agency for Research Integrity

+CSPO Live Webcast with Prof. Weingart: "Scientific Advice to Politics - Institutions Matter" and "The Science-Media Connection: Does the orientation to the media have an effect on science?"

+Marc Mölders will receive the "Dissertationspreis" 2010 of the Westfälisch-Lippische Universitätsgesellschaft on February 28, 2011 at ZiF for his thesis on  "Die Äquilibration der kommunikativen Strukturen. Ein theoretisches und empirisches Konzept eines soziologischen Lernbegriffs".

+New staff member: Petra Borgsen is secretary of Prof. Bora.

+Dr. Martin Carrier, Professor of Philosophy at Bielefeld University's Faculty of History, Philosophy, and Theology, has been appointed to the Academia Europaea, The Academy of Europe in the Section Philosophy, Theology, and Religious Studies. [more...(in German)]

+Prof. Dr. Alfons Bora is Vice-Director of the BGHS since summer 2010.

+On 26 June 2010, Cornelis Menke was made a member of the Junge Akademie [young academy] at the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of the Sciences and the Academy of Sciences Leopoldina in Halle [more...(in German)].

+An article on Susann Wagenknecht's Master's thesis has appeared in F.A.Z.-Blogs (see IWT in the media - in German).

+Mark Torka's doctoral thesis on Die Projektförmigkeit der Forschung [The project-like nature of research] has been selected for the 2010 Ulrich Teichler Prize. The award ceremony will take place at the 5th annual conference of the Gesellschaft für Hochschulforschung [Society for higher education research] in Hannover.
