Broader Perspectives on Word Order in the VP

Bielefeld, Germany, 28-Apr-2017 - 29-Apr-2017
organized by Beste Kamali and Stavros Skopeteas

Call for papers

As part of a semi-formal workshop to be held at Bielefeld University, we invite contributions that inform the formal analysis of word order in the VP from a large variety of perspectives. Thus, in addition to synchronic and comparative analyses, we welcome contributions on mono- and bilingual acquisition, language contact and change.
A non-exhaustive list of topics we are interested in are as follows:

  • Base order and head directionality;
  • Theoretical modelling, e.g., head movement vs. phrasal movement to account for derived orders
  • Correlates with linearization phenomena, e.g., adverb ordering or object ordering
  • Accounts of left peripheral options and information structure
  • Consequences of the VP structure on phonological form, in particular prosodic phrasing or nuclear stress
  • Thematic structure and its syntax
  • Effects of the properties of the arguments on word order
