This project is part of a long history of scientific exchange between the Bielefeld University (Bielefeld) and the Université Félix Houphouet Boigny (Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire), focusing on the documentation and investigation of the languages of Côte d'Ivoire: Langues et Cultures de Côte d'Ivoire (Gibbon, Lehmann, Ehnert, Dausendschön-Gay; Ahoua, Gbéry), funded by DAAD, 1997-2000; Ega: a documentation model for an endangered Ivorian language (Gibbon, Connell, Ahoua), funded by the VW foundation, 2000-2001; Dokumentation Lokaler Sprachen: Abidjan – Bielefeld – Uyo (Gibbon, Gut, Ahoua, Urua), 2002-2007.
The aim of this project is knowledge/technology transfer in both directions: the collaborative partners aim at strengthening the local infrastructure and the initiatives towards the study of the native languages in Côte d'Ivoire as well as the study of language documentation and linguistic analysis at the Bielefeld University.
