THE LEGENDARY ENGLISH STAMMTISCH
The English Stammtisch meets every Friday evening from around 7.30 p.m. in Buena Vista, on the corner of August-Bebel-Strasse (No. 207) and Luisenstrasse.
Although its (true) origins are lost in the mists of time, the English Stammtisch was founded soon after the Faculty was,
by the first English Lektors to work here in Bielefeld, as a place where students and staff could meet informally to speak English in a relaxed and unconstrained atmosphere.
In the forty or so years since the Stammtisch started up, it has been attended by people from all over the world. Students and visiting scholars from India, China, Japan, USA, Pakistan,
Australia and, yes, Germany, and even England (and Scotland!) as well, so people of all shapes, sizes, ages and professions meet there. Why not collar a friend and join in too?
More information can be found at English Stammtisch.

SCHOLARSHIP SUCCESS

Two students of British and American Studies, Jessica Seliger and
Susanne Steguweit, have recently been awarded full scholarships by the
German National Academic Foundation
(Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes).
While members of the department were able to attest to their academic
excellence, both applicants also successfully demonstrated the responsibility
and initiative the Foundation looks for in applicants during
a gruelling two-day assessment in Meschede.
