English Drama Group

The "Play Production" is a continuing activity at the Department of Linguistics and Literary Studies. Intended originally for students of British and American Studies, it was opened up for students of other subjects from the very beginning. Founded in 1976 by Martin Winks, the English Drama Group intends to practice their English in the context of stage productions. Hence, the seminar does not only provide for practising English but also introducing participants to the theory and practice of theatre.

Participants are involved at all stages of the production, including the selection of the play. They not only learn their parts, but take part in various organisational and artistic areas.

Since 2009 the group has been headed by Marie-Louise Gloystein, with her the tradition lives on. Performances usually take place at the end of each term with the audience looking forward to each new presentation. Donations by the audience support the production.
