Personal Information

I am assistant professor ("wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter") at the Department of Philosophy, University of Bielefeld, Germany. In 2005, I completed my PhD thesis entitled "Physicalism and Mental Causation: An Argument for Epiphenomenalism" under the supervision of Heinz-Dieter Heckmann (Saarbruecken), Albert Newen (Tuebingen) and Ansgar Beckermann (Bielefeld).

I am interested in the philosophy of mind and other areas of philosophy related to the study of consciousness and cognition, such as philosophy of science, philosophy of language, philosophy of biology and a bunch of other things. My current research project is entitled 'Evolutionary Anthropology: Can Biology Explain Culture?"

In due course, I hope, this site will contain information about myself and my work; in particular, you will find material related to the classes I am teaching, some finished papers, some work in progress and information about a couple of books I have (co-)edited. The site will also contain a complete CV, a number of resources in the Philosophy of Mind (links to other web sites with relevant contents, a list of forthcoming events in the philosophy of mind), and a photo gallery containing photos from various philosophical conferences.

Areas of Specialization

Philosophy of Mind (Mental Causation, Phenomenal Knowledge/Concepts)
Philosophy of Biology (Memetics, Sociobiology, Evolutionary Psychology)
related areas of Metaphysics

Areas of Competence

Professional Service

I have refereed papers for Journal of Consciousness Studies (November 2002, September 2003, Oktober 2005, May 2006), Erkenntnis (April 2004, August 2005), Philosophy of Science (Mai 2005), and Philosophical Explorations (September 2005).
